What would a writer's website be without the excerpts from the writer's work?
Probably a bit less boring, actually, but vanity must be indulged.  Besides, as
you clicked on the link, there's a bit of a chance that you might actually want
to read some of my fiction.  So here you are.

Commentary welcome!

1.  "Swimming a Hurricane" from Exodus

Clouds blockaded the sun for days on end, leaves fell, and
grasses browned.  I tried not to notice these things, but I
could feel the dying year even through thick stone walls.  I
fled south, chasing summer, chasing life...

2.  "Vines" from In Sorrows Borne

A bitter wind blew down off the hills and rattled dying
vines, making Kalsenah shiver in clothes more suited for
Tarmahn's balmy spring...

3.  "Assassination" from Trinity

Diana Turnbull enjoyed walking the five blocks between
Scherezade’s Middle Eastern Cuisine and the Grand Watch
Theatre even in these troubled times.  Every Wednesday
afternoon she left her charges in the capable hands of
other Breagha Faire swordmasters and savored a leisurely
lunch while her trainees learned how to save the world.
That routine hadn’t varied once  in the four weeks Adrian
Sykes had been observing her...

4.  "A New Word for Holocaust" from Glass
Altars

The trees in the park dripped with mist.  Chretien Pratt
shook back the sodden mass of his longish brown hair and
gazed up at clouds lit by sodium vapor streetlights, barely
visible between the spreading branches.  He felt completely
lucid, as if he had just come back from a near-death
experience.  The rain had washed the air to such a pristine
state that every sound, scent, and sight had a brilliant
clarity.  Nothing but Mother Nature and the parallel city
and the policeman squelching toward him through wet
grass filled the expansive comedown from a fairly
successful stint on acid...
5.  Spirit Journeys from Cautionary Tales

Rip Kiona knew he’d been found when he saw blond hair
across the street.  Blondes were rare in Naadaalaa Kha’an;
so were polo shirts.  He ducked behind the baker’s market
stall, earning a strange look and smothered laugh from
Kaalev for nothing...

6.
Annwn from Cautionary Tales

Dorian would speak to his assassin, but he has already
exhaled his last breath.  Dying takes much longer than he
expected.  He has time to study her as she crouches in the
snow, her blade now cleaned with a handful of snow lying
pink at her side...

7.  Vegan at the Barbecue from Rantings

You know what the best thing about being British is?  You
can say whatever the fuck you want, and no one takes
offense.  It’s like that accent confers instant immunity from
the Language Police of America...

8.  Eulogy from Cautionary Tales

Witness:
He is the world gliding over ice, cold sweat on hot skin in
frozen infinity...

9.  Schrodinger's Bum from Random Stuff

Pavarti‘s foot hit something soft but resistant like a water
balloon as she ran toward the bus stop.  She looked down,
gasping.  "Oh my gosh, I tripped over a dead guy!"
